Blueberries!!

We've been picking blueberries for about a month now.  We have 10 bushes of different varieties so they don't all come in at the same time.  It's usually more than we can eat so they get given away or frozen.  Blue berries freeze great.  Just wash them and spread out on a cookie sheet in a single layer and put them in the freezer.  Once they are solid, into a freezer bag for storage.  Bring them out all year for cobbler or muffins.

This basket took about 30 minutes to pick.

I just hold my basket under the branch and gently pull on the berries and
let them fall into the basket.

These aren't ready!

Blueberry cobbler:
Equal portions of sugar, self-rising flour, milk and butter
I usually do 1 and half cups of each and 1 and half sticks of butter
Melt the butter in a 8 x 11 inch glass baking dish
Combine sugar, flour and milk and mix well
Put a couple of cups(or as many as you want) of blueberries, fresh or frozen, in the pan with the melted butter
Pour the flour, sugar, milk mixture over the berries
Bake at 400 for 45mins to an hour or until dark golden brown
Serve with ice cream!

  1. I love blueberries! They are my favorite berry :) I love blueberry pancakes, and use fresh or frozen. I'd love to have my own bushes. I'm going to have to make your cobbler, it sounds delicious! I have an unopened bag of blueberries in the freezer....mmmmm

  3. I have some frozen blueberries in my freezer waiting to be used in a from-scratch blueberry muffin recipe that will be on my blog soon! Thanks for reminding me to take them out of my freezer to thaw them (making the muffins tomorrow!). How you usually thaw them? I was wondering if fridge or counter would be better...
