We've only just had the equinox and already it's acting like Spring. The trees are leafed out, the dogwoods are blooming, the daffodils have come and gone, the grass is growing. It seems way too early for all these things to be happening. We didn't get much of a winter. A few really crazy cold days but mostly not bad. I don't like the cold so I don't mind.
This was a quick tour of the yard this afternoon.

Vinca major or periwinkle |

Money plant |
|
Lorapetalum. A large open shrub with purple foliage and these fringy flowers . |
|
My Bloodgood Japanese maple. I love this tree. It was planted years ago and has loved the spot I put it in from the very beginning. |
|
Native red honeysuckle growing up a trellis |
|
Thrift or creeping phlox. Pale blue flowers. |
|
The dogwoods in the backyard. White clouds everywhere. |
So that's the tour for today. Stay tuned for more as they come along.
Wonderful! You're a little ahead of us. Our daffodils are still blooming and forsythia. I really love dogwoods, but they don't grow here in northern Illinois.
ReplyDeleteThat's sad you don't have dogwoods! But you probably can have things there that would fry here.
DeleteIsn't it crazy how spring has sprung all over the place?! My trees leafed out earlier than they ever have. So weird. I don't mind either lol.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Julie!! We had a dry winter where I live in the Antelope Valley of Southern CA (High Desert), but this weekend we finally got some more rain - we needed it! Now, with the warmer temps, we are getting some blooming plants in the fields. I have had a Blooming Rosemary Plant and Blooming Geranium all winter -- this was a relatively mild winter (not too much weather below freezing), but too dry!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. Those Dogwoods are stunning! Our daffodils are almost over here too (South UK) and we are expecting a drought for the summer...oh my poor vegetables..
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid we'll be in for drought this year, too.
DeleteI promise not to start whining about the heat until at least July! Or maybe June at this rate, LOL!
ReplyDeleteOooh the backyard looks gorgeous. Spring has sprung.
